The Dulwich opened in 1817, which makes it the oldest public art gallery in England. It must also be the only gallery in the world with a mausoleum at its heart containing the tombs of its founders. The permanent collection—an impressive array of European Old Masters and historic British portraits—has an emphasis is on quality over quantity.
