Dalí / Duchamp @ The RA

At the The Royal Academy of Arts FINISHED

Dali and Duchamp - what is the connection between the surrealist painter and the conceptual rouge?

Well, the simple answer is friendship - and this exhibtions revolves around their … bromance …. but is it enough to make a successful show?

It is a brave experiment, playing off both artists tongue in cheek response to sex and art.

The walls are crowded with interesting pieces. I loved to see Dali’s Lobster Telephone next to Duchamp’s early readymades.

What made the show a success was the fact that the curators didn't try to compare the two men as artists, one is an intellectual master and one is a detail specific painter. Duchamp is way more interesting normally, but here Dali just manages to hold his own. I liked it, i didn't love it.
